Flask

A flask is a fundamental piece of laboratory glassware or plasticware used in chemical, biological, and medical research for mixing, heating, cooling, and storing substances. The most common types include Erlenmeyer flasks, Florence flasks, and volumetric flasks, each designed for specific functions within a laboratory setting.

Erlenmeyer flasks, recognized by their conical shape and flat bottom, are ideal for mixing solutions by swirling, as their shape minimizes the risk of spillage. Florence flasks, or boiling flasks, have a round bottom and are used primarily for boiling liquids. Volumetric flasks are used for precise dilutions and preparation of standard solutions; they have a pear shape and a long neck with a line to indicate volume at a specific temperature.
