Multiwell

Multiwell plates, also known as microtiter plates, are crucial in the fields of experimental biology and medical research for conducting high-throughput screenings and various assays. These plates feature multiple "wells" — small, cylindrical, or conical containers arrayed in a matrix on a flat plate. Typically, the number of wells can range from 6 to 1536 per plate, allowing researchers to conduct multiple simultaneous experiments using small volumes of reagents and samples, which significantly reduces costs and increases efficiency.

The design of multiwell plates is tailored to specific applications, with variations in well volume, shape, and surface treatment to suit different types of assays, including cell culture, drug discovery, genotyping, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA). The plates are usually made from polymer materials such as polystyrene or polypropylene to ensure compatibility with laboratory instruments and to facilitate optical clarity for assays requiring light transmission. Multiwell plates are indispensable in laboratories for their versatility and capacity to streamline complex experimental workflows.
